Massage Therapist’s Care Food Drive

Maryland Food Bank needs your help. Join Aaduri Healing Arts Studio Massage Therapist’s in our first food drive.

According to the U.S.D.A., more than 720,000 Marylander’s are food insecure – uncertain of where their next meal is coming from. In fiscal year 2012, the Maryland Food Bank distributed 26.5 million pounds of food – the equivalent of 22 meals. Help us make a contribution by donating much needed items.

When: November 18 – December 31, 2013

All donations can be dropped off during office hours or outside the main entrance in the basket. Please, no expired products.

Support healthy eating by donating the following items:
* Canned meat: tuna, chicken, etc.

* Evaporated and powdered milk
* Infant formula
* Oatmeal

Winter Skin Woes

Ole man winter is here. Well technically it’s only fall, but in a few short weeks winter officially begins. If your skin is like mine, it’s suddenly become extremely dry with the cooler days. With less humidity in the air than the summer, most folks skin becomes dry like sand paper. It may crack, become irritated and itch.

Here are a few things you can for your skin:

* Use a Humidifier
Inside air is just as dry as outside air. A humidifier can add moisture to your inside air.
* Use Sunscreen Daily
Select one that has a broad-spectrum coverage. Apply daily and generously to skin exposed.
* Moisturize When Skin is Wet
Moisturizing your skin shortly after patting it dry will lock in the moisturizer more effectively than applying to dry skin. You can do this after a shower or after hand washing.

Here’s to soft moisturized skin all winter long.

Music Therapy

If you’ve been on my massage table, you’ve heard the music I select during a session. It can be a 30 minute or a 2hr session, either way you feel like the music engulfs you while laying on the table. The way I see it, music is a intricate part of the massage treatment experience. It can teleport you to another place. Allowing you to escape the stresses of your day while providing a sense of harmony and peace. Music has that type of power in the human experience. Music reaches into deep depths of our soul.

So, next time you get a massage tune into the music therapy that is accompanying the bodywork.

Tame that Headache with Massage Therapy

Headaches are one of the most common human experiences. The nagging throb that may start at the base of your neck and move it’s way up. Who hasn’t had that experience? It’s staggering that The World Health Organization now lists migraines among the 20 most debilitating diseases worldwide.

There are several headache types that respond well to manual therapies like massage therapy. Tension-Type Headaches, TTH’s, are the most common variety of headache. Within TTHs there are two subcategories. Episodic; headaches that occur fewer than 15times per month and chronic; headaches that occur more than 15times per month.

Research indicates manual therapies have a positive effect in many situations; primarily with chronic headache conditions. Effectiveness of massage therapy for headache pain is applicable to those that wish to minimize or not take at all pharmaceuticals.

If you choose to use massage therapy as headache pain management there are a few things you need to tell your Therapist. Strategies for the Therapist must be determined by what type of headache is present. TTH may require trigger point therapy while a migraine will respond best to another approach.
