Acupoints can help with Insomnia

Is the lack of sleep making your days less productive and your mood less appealing? Try massage therapy coupled with self administered acupoints.  Massage therapy helps decrease stress hormones and balance the central nervous system. These are two areas that are nearly always out of whack when you’re suffering long periods of sleeplessness.

TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) holds that if yin and yang are in harmony, one’s sleep is normal. Sleeping problems are related to the state of protective qi, as well as internal harmony of the body. Under normal circumstances, the body’s protective qi flows along the yang meridians in the daytime which enables the organs to function actively and thus remain awake. On the other hand, protective qi flows along the yin meridians at night, thus the body becomes inactive and needs to sleep. When the internal harmony is disturbed, the stability of Shen (spirit) inside the heart is affected and insomnia will then occur.

Okay, so now you know you are sleep deprived. What can you do? You can start off scheduling a full body session to help jump start your restful sleep. Next right before bed you can try these easy to do and remember acupoints. Here are some really simple acupoints that you can do while in bed:

*Thumb-knead the inner sides of the eyebrows 30 times
*Rub the hands together to get them warm, then put them over the closed eyes for 30 seconds; slightly rub the eyeballs, 10 times or more
