Giving Back by volunteering

Finger Touch Massage LLC would like to thank Morgan State University public radio station WEAA 88.9 for the on air business acknowledgement! This is my primary radio station in the city; my dial rarely changes from it. During the stations annual membership drive, I came in and provided chair massages to the staff, volunteers and some of my favorite radio personalities.

Fibromyalgia and Hatha Yoga

Suffering from fibromyalgia? New studies show practicing yoga twice a week reduces the pain. Adding hatha yoga; which places an emphasis on breathing, meditation and inner reflection; to the research prevented the patients from focusing on their own pain. ~ Psychology Today

The Massage Artist

Posted on April 13th, 2012 by Shari´ Parks

Great massage therapist effortlessly blend science and art to address each clients needs for a satisfying experience. Massage requires a therapist to be both analytical and artistic. The therapist must analyze the client through a health history intake process, visual assessment and palpation of the clients tissue.

Anatomy, physiology, and kinesiology inform specific massage techniques, but the smoothness of the therapists hands, and the ability to transition smoothly from one smooth stroke to the next, give the massage flow and fluidity.

This ability to tap into natural rhythms and graceful movement over the body is the art of massage.

Massage Therapy and Oncology patients

Posted on April 11th, 2012 by Shari´ Parks

Yesterday I had the opportunity to provide bodywork to my dear friend Alicia who has been diagnosed with breast cancer. We began the first treatment with two gentle massage therapies. Two modalities that I have extensive training in: reflexology and cranial sacral therapy. She reported to me today, referring to me as a “Holy Healer”, that she slept like a new born baby! That was music to my ears because I know that the lack of restorative sleep affects many cancer patients.

The AMTA (American Massage Therapy Association) recently came out with their 2012 Massage Therapy Industry Fact Sheet indicating that recent research supports the effectiveness of massage for cancer related fatigue.

Oncology Massage can help with a broad range of symptoms including:
*aches and pains
*fatigue, stress and exhaustion
*scarring
*nausea, diarrhea, and constipation
*insomnia and lack of appetite
*various other side effects of chemotherapy and radiation

Treatments have been reported to:
*relieve depression
*reduce stress
*strengthen compromised body organs and systems
*enhance feelings of well being
*support and boost the immune system

Massage therapy is an amazing compliment to cancer care and survivorship, reclaiming the body from the certainty of the medical community. Massage can also diminish chemotherapy and radiation treatment-related side effects.

Together let’s eliminate the misconception that massage therapy is not suitable. A highly trained licensed massage therapist can help ease cancer-related fatigue as well as decreasing pain in cancer patients. I’m thrilled to be able to provide such powerful healing work!

Experts estimate that upwards of 90% of disease is stress-related.

Nothing ages us faster, internally and externally, than high stress. Massage is an effective tool for managing this stress, which translates into:Decreased anxiety
Enhanced sleep quality

Greater energy
Improved concentration
Increased circulation
Reduced fatigue
